XY-TEK Showcases Micro Flow Sensors and Air Bubble Detectors for Biopharma at ISPE Boston 2025

As a leading event for pharmaceutical engineering professionals, the ISPE Boston product show gathered over 1,500 attendees to discuss innovations in biopharmaceutical manufacturing, process engineering, and laboratory technologies.

At Booth #312, XY-TEK demonstrated how the TGU Series Micro Flow Sensor, CG Series Clamp-On Flow Sensor, BG Series Bubble Sensor address key challenges in biopharmaceutical processes, such as accurate flow rate measurement, air bubble detection, and alert in bioreactors, liquid chromatography systems, and lab-scale experiments.

These non-invasive ultrasonic flow measurement sensors are engineered for cleanroom compatibility, ensuring minimal contamination and seamless integration into GMP-compliant environments.

1. TGU Series Micro Flow Sensor / Flow Meter excels in low-flow measurement scenarios. The TGU series ultrasonic flow sensor is capable of measuring as low as 1 mL/min, with measurement accuracy up to ±1%, and optimal repeatability of 0.002 mL, making it perfect for micro-scale biopharma applications like HPLC and lab devices.

2. The CG Clamp-On ultrasonic Flow Sensor / Flow Meter offers non-invasive flow rate measurement with ±2% accuracy, clamping onto the plastic tubing without any disruption. Ideal for biopharma equipment like fermenters and media preparation systems, it measures bio liquids in small-diameter lines (OD 4mm-35mm), supporting applications in upstream bioprocessing. In laboratory settings, it enables real-time flow data measurement for experimental fluid dynamics, helping researchers optimize processes for drug development. Its quick installation (under 10 minutes) and non-invasive flow rate measurement make it a cost-effective alternative to in-line flow meters, cutting maintenance and operational costs while maintaining measurement accuracy

3.BG Series Bubble Detector / Bubble Sensor detects air bubbles as small as 1/3 of the tubing inner ID, preventing process failures in sensitive biopharma workflows. In perfusion bioreactors and downstream purification units, it safeguards against embolisms or foam-related inconsistencies that could compromise biologics production. For labs, it can be integrated into automated pipetting and mixing systems, ensuring bubble-free samples for assays and cell culture experiments.

The BG bubble detector is small in size, supports multiple output modes, which facilitate easy adoption in R&D environments, enhancing safety and yield in monoclonal antibody and vaccine manufacturing.
